On a cloudy May 18th, the seventh edition of the PTs Take Flight Car Show took place in Dover, Delaware. Over 60 Chrysler PT Cruisers came out from more than a handful of east coast states; someone from Canada was even in attendance! The PT Cruisers were lined up around the deactivated military planes at the Air Mobility Museum at Dover Air Force Base to support the USO, United Service Organization.
The non-profit organization provide services and live entertainment for our troops and their families. Many PT enthusiasts made a weekend out of the event; on Friday they were able to drive their vehicles onto Dover Downs Raceway as well as attend a Glow or Neon Show at nighttime! The event had many activities for PT enthusiasts and their families. The Air Mobility Museum was very inviting and informative for everyone. They were able to answer questions about anything pertaining to the Dover Air Force Base and planes on the premises. There was several demonstrations given on Saturday from Dover military personnel. Also, we were given access to go up in the deactivated control tower and have views of the area/museum from above.
Both my father and I had a great time at the event, we enjoyed the opportunity to reminisce with many fellow PT enthusiasts. It was a great to catch up about new additions to the vehicles and socialize on different matters. Even though the PT Cruiser is no longer in production, the community is still alive and thriving. This is evident by both long time members and a new younger generation that is now starting to get involved with the vehicle. We are both looking forward to next years event!
I have to give Jim Thistlewood, head of Lone Wolf Outlaw Cruisers and event coordinator, credit for holding an exceptional event. He went through a lot of trouble bringing a wide variety of vendors out to the event to meet the needs of the participants and guests. It was a great success for the club to make a donation to such a well deserving charity such as the USO.
